Responsibilities
- Oversee Pension Administration: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of pension benefit claims, including eligibility verification, calculations, and disbursements.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and apply state and federal regulations (e.g., ERISA, CalPERS guidelines) to ensure all pension activities adhere to legal standards.
- Conduct Actuarial Reviews: Analyze financial data to assess the sustainability of pension plans and recommend adjustments to stakeholders.
- Employee Advisory: Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and retirees, answering complex inquiries regarding retirement benefits and vesting schedules.
- System Management: Maintain and update records in state pension management systems, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in current workflows and implement process improvements to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, government benefits, or actuarial consulting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel advanced functions) and experience with ERP or pension administration software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or specific state HRIS).
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of public sector retirement systems and California Government Codes related to human resources and benefits.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Certifications: CPA, CFA, or APFA certification is a significant plus.
