The City of Columbus is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pension Plan Administrator to join our dedicated team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the administration of our comprehensive pension and retirement benefits programs, ensuring the financial security and well-being of our dedicated public servants.
As a key member of our Finance and Human Resources division, you will act as a subject matter expert in pension management, compliance, and employee relations. If you are passionate about public service and possess a strong background in financial administration, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end administration of the city’s pension and retirement plans, including member inquiries, data entry, and account reconciliation.
- Ensure strict compliance with ERISA regulations, Ohio Revised Code, and applicable federal/state labor laws regarding pension distributions and vesting.
- Conduct regular audits of pension records and data to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy across all employee cohorts.
- Provide expert guidance and counseling to current and retired employees regarding eligibility, benefit calculations, and retirement options.
- Collaborate with the Actuarial team to prepare annual valuations and projections for pension liabilities and funding requirements.
- Prepare and submit accurate reports to state oversight bodies and internal stakeholders on pension fund performance and status.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, policy updates, and training materials for HR staff and management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, retirement plan management, or a similar role within the public sector or a large corporate HR department.
- Deep understanding of ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act), 401(k) plans, and government pension structures.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and actuarial reports.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems (e.g., Workday, SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex benefits concepts to diverse audiences.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a standard background check.
