Responsibilities
- Administer and oversee city pension plans including CalPERS and defined benefit programs
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and California state pension laws
- Analyze financial data and prepare actuarial reports for pension fund valuations
- Manage member communications regarding retirement eligibility, benefits, and plan changes
- Collaborate with auditors during annual financial statement reviews
- Develop retirement education programs for city employees
- Monitor legislative changes affecting public sector pensions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of pension plan administration experience in government or public sector
- SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or CFA certification preferred
- Expertise in ERISA compliance, IRS 415/401(a) regulations, and CalPERS policies
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Oracle HCM, Workday)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement
