Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Emergency Calls: Answer 911 and non-emergency lines with speed and accuracy, gathering critical incident information.
- Coordinate Response Units: Dispatch police, fire, and medical units to locations based on real-time information and priority levels.
- Maintain Communication Logs: Accurately document all calls, actions taken, and unit responses in the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provide Resource Information: Assist callers with non-emergency information, directions, and community resources.
- Monitor System Status: Keep a constant vigil on radio frequencies and computer systems to detect and address emerging situations.
- Escalate Critical Incidents: Effectively communicate with supervisors and specialized units during high-stakes emergencies.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma: or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Driver's License: with a clean driving record (training may include driving requirements).
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to speak clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, over the radio and phone.
- Computer Proficiency: Comfortable learning and using complex computer systems and radio equipment.
- Stress Tolerance: Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress, fast-paced environments.
- Availability: Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays (essential for dispatch roles).
