Join the New Orleans Police Department as a Police Dispatcher Trainee and become the vital communication link between our community and first responders. This full-time position offers comprehensive training to develop your skills in emergency call handling, radio dispatch, and crisis management. As a trainee, you'll work alongside experienced dispatchers to master protocols for police, fire, and medical emergencies while supporting our mission to enhance public safety across Orleans Parish.
Responsibilities
- Process emergency and non-emergency calls with speed and accuracy
- Dispatch appropriate police/fire/EMS units using CAD systems
- Maintain detailed logs and documentation of all communications
- Provide clear instructions to callers during critical incidents
- Coordinate with multiple agencies during complex emergencies
- Operate radio equipment and computer-aided dispatch systems
- Adhere to NOLA PD policies and FCC regulations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM
- Ability to pass background investigation and drug screening
- Strong multitasking and decision-making abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer systems
- Valid Louisiana driver's license
- US citizenship or permanent residency status
- No felony convictions
