Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency calls from the public, providing immediate assistance and dispatching appropriate resources
- Operate multi-channel communication systems including radios, telephones, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all communications and incidents in compliance with department protocols
- Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel during emergency situations
- Remain calm under high-pressure scenarios while delivering clear, concise instructions to callers
- Participate in ongoing training to master emergency procedures and departmental systems
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute with accuracy
- Ability to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination
- Valid California driver's license with a clean record
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn specialized dispatch software
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to de-escalate tense situations
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status
