Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and radio transmissions promptly and efficiently.
- Assess the nature and priority of calls and dispatch appropriate units (police, fire, EMS) as required.
- Enter and update information in the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and other databases accurately.
- Provide clear and concise instructions to callers and officers in the field, ensuring safety and effective response.
- Monitor multiple radio channels and surveillance systems simultaneously.
- Coordinate with other agencies and departments to ensure seamless response to emergencies.
- Maintain detailed logs of all calls, actions taken, and outcomes.
- Participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and stay current on departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
- Minimum age of 21 at the time of appointment.
- U.S. citizenship or proof of legal residency.
- Ability to pass a background investigation, polygraph examination, and drug screening.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-pressure environment.
- Proficient typing skills (minimum 40 words per minute).
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
