As the first point of contact for our community during emergencies, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety and coordinating police responses. Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone, radio, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incidents based on location, nature, and priority of the call.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs of all calls, incidents, and unit status changes.
- Provide critical information to callers while maintaining calm and professionalism in high-stress situations.
- Monitor security cameras and radio frequencies to identify potential threats or dispatch unit needs.
- Assist in the training and mentorship of incoming dispatch personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Communications Center operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required; Associate's degree in criminal justice or communications is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate clearly over the phone.
- Proficiency in basic computer operations and the ability to learn new software rapidly.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays (flexible hours required).
- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation, drug screening, and medical examination.
