As a Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will serve as the critical link between the public and our police officers. Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service with high accuracy and speed.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incident locations using two-way radio and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Maintain accurate records of calls, incidents, and officer activity in the CAD system and logs.
- Provide clear and concise instructions to callers in distress to ensure their safety until help arrives.
- Communicate effectively with field officers to coordinate responses and provide critical information.
- Monitor and respond to alarms and surveillance systems as directed.
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and emergency protocols at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; some college or certification in public safety preferred.
- Valid Minnesota driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly and calmly under pressure.
- Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM).
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and medical exam.
- Experience with multi-line phone systems or 911 dispatch is highly desirable.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
