As a Dispatcher Trainee, you will undergo rigorous training before taking the helm. We are looking for candidates who are dedicated, detail-oriented, and ready to make an impact in San Jose.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public.
- Dispatch police, fire, and medical units to appropriate locations with clear and concise information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs of all radio traffic and incidents.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with field officers, supervisors, and other agencies via radio and telephone.
- Provide information and assistance to citizens regarding police services, traffic conditions, and crime prevention.
- Monitor alarms and surveillance systems for the Police Department.
- Assist in training new dispatchers and maintaining departmental equipment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. Citizen.
- Clean criminal record (no felonies or serious misdemeanors).
- Excellent typing skills (minimum 35 WPM required).
- Ability to remain calm and make quick, sound decisions under pressure.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
