Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, assess situations, and dispatch appropriate police/fire/EMS units
- Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and radio equipment with precision
- Maintain detailed call logs and incident documentation per department protocols
- Provide clear, concise instructions to callers during medical emergencies or crisis situations
- Coordinate with multiple agencies (fire, EMS, other law enforcement) during multi-incident responses
- Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage caller emotions and ensure accurate information gathering
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain certification and procedural knowledge
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (college coursework in criminal justice preferred)
- Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute (certified test required)
- Ability to pass extensive background investigation and polygraph examination
- Valid California driver's license with clean driving record
- US citizenship or legal authorization to work in the US
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Clear speaking voice with excellent English language proficiency
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor domestic violence offenses
