Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate police units
- Operate radio equipment, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and telecommunication devices
- Remain calm and professional during crisis situations, providing clear instructions
- Maintain accurate logs and records of all communications and incidents
- Coordinate with other emergency agencies (fire, EMS) during multi-agency responses
- Utilize mapping software to determine optimal unit deployment
- Adhere to strict confidentiality protocols for sensitive information
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation
- Valid Texas Class C driver's license (or obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM with high accuracy
- Proficiency in computer systems and multi-tasking abilities
- Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish (bilingual preferred)
- No felony convictions or domestic violence convictions
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
