Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service (911 and non-emergency lines).
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) units to incidents using CAD systems.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all dispatch activities, incident reports, and logs.
- Monitor radio frequencies and communicate effectively with field personnel during active incidents.
- Provide critical information and instructions to responding officers to ensure officer safety and scene management.
- Assist in the training of incoming dispatch personnel and mentor junior staff.
- Perform data entry and ensure all departmental protocols are followed during high-stress situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Strong typing skills and proficiency with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and decisive under extreme pressure and stressful circumstances.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
