Responsibilities
- Receive, prioritize, and process incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls from the public and other law enforcement agencies.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services units to incident locations using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of calls, officer activities, and incident reports in the department's database.
- Provide essential information to officers in the field, including directions, suspect descriptions, and status updates.
- Monitor radio frequencies and CCTV systems to detect emergencies and proactively dispatch resources.
- Handle high-stress situations with composure, ensuring clear and concise verbal communication at all times.
- Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel during the trainee program.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; some college coursework or a degree in Criminal Justice or Communications is a plus.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required.
- Excellent typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM) with high accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely under pressure.
- Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation, drug screening, and medical examination.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
