Responsibilities

  • Receive and process emergency (911) and non-emergency calls for service with accuracy and urgency.
  • Operate radio communication equipment to coordinate the response of law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel.
  • Enter and maintain accurate records of calls, dispatches, and incident reports in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Provide essential information to citizens, including road conditions, weather alerts, and community events.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and listen to scanner feeds to maintain situational awareness of the city.
  • Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel during the trainee program.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License is required.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination and medical exam.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute is preferred.
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
