Responsibilities
- Receive, screen, and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service accurately and efficiently.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services to incident locations using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Maintain constant radio communications with field units, monitoring their status and relaying vital information.
- Enter and update incident reports, citations, and property evidence into departmental databases in real-time.
- Provide critical instructions and reassurance to callers until help arrives on scene.
- Perform shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage.
- Collaborate with other agencies and personnel during multi-agency incidents.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate is required; post-secondary education or certification in public safety is highly preferred.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record required.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and make quick, accurate decisions during high-stress situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly over radio and telephone.
- Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation, medical exam, and psychological evaluation.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts and holidays as part of a comprehensive dispatch schedule.
