As a Trainee, you will undergo rigorous training to learn the ins and outs of emergency communications. Once certified, you will be responsible for dispatching units, maintaining radio contact with officers in the field, and ensuring the safety of our community.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and receive emergency 911 calls and radio transmissions from patrol officers.
- Dispatch police units, fire services, and emergency medical personnel to incidents with speed and accuracy.
- Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to log incidents, track units, and update status reports.
- Provide critical information to callers, including location details and safety instructions.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to departmental protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Communicate effectively with other law enforcement agencies and emergency services during multi-agency incidents.
- Perform routine checks of radio equipment and communication systems to ensure reliability.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Ability to type at a minimum speed of 35 words per minute.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to remain composed and make quick decisions during high-stress emergency situations.
- Successful completion of a background investigation, drug screen, and medical examination.
