Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public; gather and relay critical information to law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.
- Monitor and operate multi-channel radio systems to dispatch officers, fire units, and EMS personnel to incidents.
- Maintain accurate, detailed logs of all calls, responses, and unit status using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software.
- Provide general information and assistance to citizens regarding police services, department policies, and non-emergency requests.
- Coordinate with other agencies during multi-agency responses, including fire, medical, and hazardous materials incidents.
- Remain calm and composed during high-stress situations, ensuring clear communication under pressure.
- Perform administrative duties such as data entry, report verification, and database management.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; completion of a post-secondary public safety program is a strong plus.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. Citizen.
- Valid driver's license required; must possess a safe driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio.
- Ability to type at least 35-40 words per minute.
- Must pass a background investigation, drug screening, and medical examination.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Proficiency with computers and willingness to learn specialized dispatch software.
