Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency/non-emergency calls via 911 and administrative lines
- Dispatch police units, fire services, and medical responders to incident locations
- Maintain accurate real-time logs of all communications and activities
- Provide critical information to first responders using radio systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD)
- Calmly guide callers through emergency situations until help arrives
- Operate multiple communication systems simultaneously under pressure
- Complete comprehensive training on department protocols and procedures
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- No prior dispatch or public safety experience necessary
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
- Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen
- Proficient in typing (minimum 35 WPM) and computer literacy
- Exceptional communication and active listening skills
- Ability to remain calm and make critical decisions in high-stress situations
- Must pass a drug screening and psychological evaluation
