Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with speed and accuracy
- Dispatch police, fire, and medical personnel to incidents
- Maintain detailed logs of all communications and activities
- Operate radio systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software
- Remain calm and professional during high-stress situations
- Provide critical information to first responders
- Assist in training new dispatchers upon certification
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- No prior experience required – training provided
- Ability to type 35+ WPM (typing test administered)
- Clear communication skills and strong situational awareness
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in fast-paced environments
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- US citizenship and valid Alaska driver's license
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
