The Memphis Police Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Part-Time Police Dispatcher Trainees. In this role, you will serve as the critical link between the public and our first responders. You will monitor emergency radio frequencies, answer 911 calls, and coordinate the deployment of police units to ensure the safety of Memphis residents. We are looking for calm, clear-headed individuals who thrive under pressure and possess excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Monitor Communication Systems: Continuously monitor police radio frequencies to receive and transmit information regarding crime, emergencies, and traffic conditions.
- Dispatch Units: Rapidly and accurately dispatch patrol units, detectives, and special response teams to various incidents in the city.
- Answer Emergency Calls: Receive emergency and non-emergency calls via phone and radio, gather critical information, and provide pre-arrival instructions to callers.
- Maintain Logs: Accurately document all dispatch activities, unit movements, and incident reports in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provide Information: Assist the public with non-emergency inquiries, directions, and community information.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with field officers, detectives, and other city agencies to coordinate large-scale events or multi-agency responses.
Qualifications
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Education: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
- Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including a criminal history check and polygraph examination.
- Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills and the ability to learn complex dispatch software systems quickly.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
- License: Valid Tennessee Driver's License required.
