Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with empathy and urgency
- Dispatch police officers, fire, and EMS units to incidents
- Maintain accurate real-time status of all units
- Enter and update information in CAD/RMS systems
- Provide life-saving instructions via phone during emergencies
- Coordinate multi-agency responses during critical incidents
- Document all communications and actions per department protocols
- Participate in ongoing training and certification programs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- U.S. citizenship and valid Maryland driver's license
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and psychological evaluation
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM (tested during application process)
- Clear speaking voice and excellent communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under extreme pressure
- Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills
- No felony convictions and clean driving record
