Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls via radio and telephone, assessing situations and dispatching appropriate personnel and resources immediately.
- Emergency Dispatch: Coordinate the response of police, fire, and medical units to incidents, ensuring accurate location and status information is relayed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs of all calls, incidents, and unit activity within the CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) system.
- Information Management: Verify and process information from callers, including suspect descriptions, vehicle details, and incident status updates.
- Radio Communication: Monitor police radio frequencies to maintain situational awareness and coordinate inter-agency responses.
- Training Compliance: Actively participate in all assigned dispatcher training modules, simulations, and field observations to prepare for certification.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- License: Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to type accurately at a minimum speed of 35-40 words per minute.
- Stress Management: Ability to remain calm, composed, and make sound decisions under high-pressure and stressful situations.
- Availability: Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
