Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and complaint-based inspections of food establishments, childcare centers, and public pools
- Investigate public health complaints and enforce local/state health regulations
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate electronic records
- Provide health education to business owners and community members
- Collaborate with law enforcement during public health emergencies
- Testify in administrative hearings and court proceedings as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Biology, Public Health, or related field
- Valid Texas Registered Sanitarian (RS) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Minimum 2 years of environmental health inspection experience
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations (FDA Food Code, Texas Health & Safety Code)
- Excellent communication skills for public education and enforcement interactions
- Valid Texas driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends for inspections
