Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the City’s pension administration program, including member record maintenance and benefit calculations.
- Ensure full compliance with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) regulations, ERISA standards, and local government codes.
- Analyze complex financial data to prepare accurate actuarial reports and quarterly statements for city leadership and oversight boards.
- Provide exceptional customer service and technical support to current employees, retirees, and beneficiaries regarding pension inquiries and claim processing.
- Review and process retirement applications, ensuring all required documentation is accurate and complete.
- Collaborate with the Finance Department to forecast funding needs and monitor budget variances related to pension obligations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in government benefits administration, pension management, or human resources.
- Strong working knowledge of retirement plans, ERISA compliance, and relevant state pension laws.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and experience with pension administration software (e.g., Empower, SAP, or similar).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and regulations.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
