Responsibilities
- Patrol and Deterrence: Conduct regular patrols of city properties and neighborhoods to prevent crime and ensure public safety.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency calls, including medical, fire, and security incidents, providing critical assistance until backup arrives.
- Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with Houston residents by providing information, assistance, and a visible police presence.
- Law Enforcement: Enforce city ordinances and state laws, issuing citations and making arrests when necessary within legal guidelines.
- Incident Reporting: Document all activities, observations, and incidents accurately and thoroughly using departmental software.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance on assigned patrol vehicles to ensure they are roadworthy and ready for duty.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
- Licensing: Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record required.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to pass a physical agility test and maintain physical fitness standards as required by the department.
- Background: No felony convictions; must pass a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to de-escalate tense situations.
- Age: Must be at least 21 years of age.
