The City of Oakland seeks a highly motivated Public Works Inspector to join our Infrastructure Division. This critical role ensures compliance with municipal codes and construction standards while supporting the city's infrastructure modernization initiatives. Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of public works projects including roadways, drainage systems, and utility installations
- Verify construction compliance with approved plans, specifications, and safety regulations
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and documentation using digital tools
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and city departments to resolve compliance issues
- Monitor project progress and maintain accurate records of inspections
- Enforce municipal codes and provide technical guidance to project stakeholders
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of construction inspection experience or equivalent technical training
- Valid California Inspector certification (OSHA 30-hour certification preferred)
- Proficiency with construction inspection software (e.g., Accela, Viewpoint)
- Strong knowledge of municipal codes and construction standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical specifications
- Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation
