Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency/non-emergency calls via phone, radio, and digital systems
- Dispatch appropriate units (police, fire, EMS) based on incident severity and location
- Maintain accurate digital records of all communications in CAD/RMS systems
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers during critical incidents
- Coordinate multi-agency responses during major emergencies
- Monitor radio frequencies for ongoing operations and updates
- Complete all training modules to achieve dispatcher certification
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM with 95% accuracy
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong multi-tasking abilities during high-pressure situations
- Clear verbal communication skills with neutral accent
- Basic computer proficiency (Windows OS, typing software)
- No criminal history (background check required)
- Must reside in Louisiana for state certification
