Responsibilities
- Operate heavy sanitation equipment, including rear-loading trucks and mechanical loaders, to collect refuse and recyclables.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling snow, sweeping streets, and cleaning catch basins during inclement weather.
- Sort, load, and dump waste materials into collection vehicles in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and traffic laws.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to ensure efficient route operations.
- Inspect collection vehicles for mechanical issues and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist in the removal of illegally parked vehicles and abandoned debris when necessary.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or a qualified alien.
- Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
- Ability to pass a physical examination and a background investigation.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods.
