Job Summary:
The Senior Government Policy Analyst will conduct in-depth research and analysis on municipal issues, draft policy recommendations, and assist in the administration of grants and contracts. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills to translate complex data into actionable insights for city management and the public.
Responsibilities
- Policy Research & Analysis: Conduct comprehensive research on local, state, and federal policies to assess their impact on the City of San Jose.
- Report Preparation: Draft clear, concise, and professional reports, memorandums, and briefings for City Council members and senior management.
- Grant Administration: Manage the full lifecycle of grant applications, including writing proposals, budgeting, and reporting compliance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a liaison between City departments and external agencies, vendors, and community organizations.
- Fiscal Analysis: Analyze budget proposals and expenditure reports to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
- Legislative Monitoring: Monitor legislative changes at the state and local level and provide timely updates to the department.
- Project Management: Lead or support special projects related to urban planning, public safety, or community development initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in government, public policy, or a related analytical field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with data analysis software (e.g., Tableau, SQL) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of municipal government operations and the legislative process.
- Integrity: Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in public service.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on finding practical solutions.
