Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior IT Specialist to join the City of Oakland’s IT team. This role is critical to maintaining our infrastructure during off-peak hours and offers the unique flexibility of a hybrid/remote work environment. Responsibilities
- Perform essential system maintenance, patching, and security updates during weekend shifts to minimize downtime.
- Provide Tier 2 technical support and troubleshooting for government employees and constituents remotely.
- Monitor network infrastructure and security systems, responding to alerts and incidents immediately.
- Collaborate with the central IT team to implement new software and hardware solutions.
- Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local government data privacy regulations.
- Document technical procedures and maintain accurate logs of all maintenance activities.
- Assist in disaster recovery planning and execute backup procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support, system administration, or network engineering.
- Experience working in a government or public sector environment is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure).
- Proficiency in remote access tools and cybersecurity protocols.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively during weekend hours.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
