Responsibilities
- Lead Actuarial Valuations: Direct the annual and interim actuarial valuations of the County's defined benefit pension plans, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and apply GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) standards and Florida Statutes regarding pension accounting and reporting.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare complex actuarial reports for the Board of County Commissioners, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Consultation & Analysis: Provide expert advice to the Retirement Board and HR leadership regarding funding strategies, liability management, and actuarial assumptions.
- Project Management: Manage cross-functional teams to implement pension plan amendments and changes in benefit structures.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or a related field required.
- Credentials: Must be a member of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) or Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) with FSA or EA designation.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in actuarial work, preferably within the public sector or a large government agency.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and actuarial modeling software (e.g., AXIS, MAP, or equivalent).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data to non-technical audiences.
