Responsibilities
- Member Inquiries: Serve as the primary point of contact for members regarding pension eligibility, calculations, and benefit disbursements.
- Administrative Processing: Review and process retirement applications, ensuring all documentation meets legal and regulatory standards.
- Calculations: Perform complex actuarial calculations to determine monthly pension amounts, adjusting for service credit, age, and salary history.
- Compliance: Stay up-to-date with federal and state regulations (ERISA, IRS) to ensure OPERS remains fully compliant.
- Data Integrity: Maintain accurate and secure records within the department’s database systems.
- Education: Conduct retirement planning workshops and seminars for public employees nearing retirement.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, benefits management, or actuarial services.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel is critical) and familiarity with ERISA laws.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-experts.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy required for financial data entry and reporting.
- Certifications: CFP (Certified Financial Planner) or PPA (Professional Pension Administrator) preferred but not required.
