In this pivotal role, you will oversee complex pension calculations, member inquiries, and compliance reporting. You will serve as a subject matter expert on the City's Defined Benefit Plan, ensuring accuracy in every disbursement and maintaining the highest standards of fiduciary responsibility.

Responsibilities
- Pension Calculations & Processing: Perform complex actuarial calculations for vested and non-vested members, ensuring 100% accuracy in benefit calculations and monthly statements.
- Member Advisory Services: Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries regarding eligibility, retirement dates, and benefit projections.
- Compliance & Reporting: Prepare and submit required state and federal reports (e.g., CalPERS reporting, IRS Form 5500 schedules) in strict adherence to legal guidelines.
- System Management: Monitor and maintain the accuracy of data within the retirement management software, troubleshooting discrepancies and performing system audits.
- Policy Interpretation: Interpret and apply City Charter provisions and retirement plan amendments to resolve ambiguous member scenarios.
- Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in current workflows and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, public sector benefits, or actuarial support.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel advanced functions, PivotTables) and experience with ERISA plans or state retirement systems is highly desirable.
- License: Certified Pension Professional (CPP) or equivalent designation is a plus.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
