Responsibilities
- Oversee Pension Calculations: Perform complex actuarial calculations and verify benefit payments for retirees and beneficiaries in accordance with NYSTRS plans.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all pension processing activities comply with New York State Public Retirement Law and Internal Revenue Code requirements.
- Member Inquiries: Handle high-level escalations from members and employers, providing clear, accurate explanations regarding benefit eligibility and calculations.
- System Management: Monitor and troubleshoot pension administration software systems to ensure data integrity and operational efficiency.
- Process Improvement: Identify workflow bottlenecks and implement solutions to streamline pension processing procedures.
- Training & Mentorship: Mentor junior administrators and conduct training sessions on pension policies and procedures.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of all calculations, approvals, and correspondence.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, benefits administration, or actuarial services within a government or large corporate environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with ERP or HRIS systems (e.g., SAP, Workday) is highly preferred.
- Analytical Ability: Strong analytical thinking with the ability to interpret complex data and regulations accurately.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Attention to Detail: Uncompromising attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
- Legal Knowledge: Basic understanding of ERISA and state public pension regulations.
