Responsibilities
- Analyze Pension Performance: Conduct rigorous quantitative analysis of pension fund returns, actuarial valuations, and liability projections using advanced financial modeling techniques.
- Investment Strategy Support: Partner with investment teams to assess the impact of market volatility and macroeconomic trends on the pension plan's funded status.
- Regulatory Reporting: Prepare and review complex reports required by the California Public Employees' Retirement Law (CalPERS Law) and external auditors.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present complex financial concepts to executive leadership and government stakeholders in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize data workflows and leverage technology (e.g., SQL, Python) to enhance reporting efficiency.
- Compliance Oversight: Ensure all actuarial assumptions and calculations comply with current GAAP and GASB standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in pension fund analysis, actuarial consulting, or investment management.
- Certifications: CFA, SOA, or FSA designation is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or advanced Excel; experience with actuarial software (e.g., Milliman, B&W) is a plus.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Communication: Strong ability to translate technical data into strategic insights for non-technical audiences.
