Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily administration of defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans for city employees.
- Analyze and calculate pension benefits, survivor benefits, and refund requests with high precision.
- Ensure strict adherence to state and federal regulations, including ERISA and Kentucky Retirement Systems guidelines.
- Provide expert guidance and customer service to retirees, beneficiaries, and active employees regarding plan eligibility and benefits.
- Prepare and review monthly actuarial reports and annual financial statements.
- Collaborate with internal audit teams and external actuaries to maintain compliance standards.
- Manage data integrity for the retirement database and assist in system upgrades.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial support, or public sector human resources.
- Strong working knowledge of ERISA, FERPA, and Kentucky state retirement laws.
- Proficiency in financial software (e.g., PeopleSoft, SAP) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage complex data sets accurately.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on interpreting complex financial concepts for non-technical audiences.
