Responsibilities
- Plan Administration: Manage the daily operations of the state pension plan, including member data maintenance, contribution processing, and benefit calculations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all pension activities adhere to California State Government regulations, ERISA guidelines, and federal pension laws.
- Member Services: Serve as a subject matter expert for retirees and active employees, responding to inquiries regarding eligibility, vesting, and payout structures.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare actuarial reports, statistical summaries, and financial statements for internal review and external auditors.
- System Optimization: Work with IT teams to implement new software solutions and improve the efficiency of the pension administration workflow.
- Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in current procedures and recommend strategic improvements to reduce processing times and errors.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial science, or government benefits management.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions), SQL, and pension administration software (e.g., CalPERS systems or similar).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of retirement plans, 401(k), 403(b), and state-specific pension formulas.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Licensure: Must possess or obtain the necessary certifications relevant to pension management (e.g., Certified Pension Finance Professional - CPFP).
