Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for city departments and major projects
- Manage media relations, press conferences, and public inquiries with executive-level professionalism
- Create compelling digital content across city websites, social media, and public platforms
- Lead crisis communication protocols during emergencies and public incidents
- Collaborate with city leadership on public messaging and stakeholder engagement
- Oversee production of official publications, reports, and multimedia materials
- Analyze public sentiment and adjust communication strategies accordingly
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive experience in government/public sector communications
- Proven expertise in crisis communication and media relations management
- Advanced writing/editing skills with portfolio of published work
- Proficiency with digital analytics tools and CMS platforms
- Valid California Driver's License
- Experience managing municipal budgets and vendor contracts
- Knowledge of California Public Records Act and open meeting laws
