Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic communications plans for city initiatives, crisis management, and public outreach programs
- Serve as primary spokesperson for City Council meetings, press conferences, and media inquiries
- Oversee creation of digital content including social media, web updates, and multimedia campaigns
- Manage public records requests and ensure compliance with California Public Records Act
- Coordinate with 40+ city departments to align messaging on major projects
- Analyze public sentiment and adjust communications strategies using data-driven insights
- Mentor junior communications staff and intern program participants
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years progressive experience in government communications or public affairs
- Proven crisis communication management with high-profile organizations
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, CMS platforms, and analytics tools
- Valid California Driver's License and ability to work irregular hours
- Portfolio demonstrating award-winning campaigns and measurable outcomes
- Understanding of California Sunshine Act and open meeting regulations
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (highly desirable)
