Job Summary
The Senior Systems Engineer will design, implement, and maintain complex IT systems that support county operations. You will act as a technical lead, mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage on-premise and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure).
- Configure and secure network devices, including firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot complex technical issues to minimize downtime.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python/Bash) to improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and government security standards (NIST/CIS).
- Conduct regular system audits and security assessments to mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align IT solutions with business goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering or Network Administration.
- Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, AWS Solutions Architect, or CCNP are highly preferred.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in critical environments.
- Valid California Driver’s License (may be required for site visits).
