Responsibilities
- Administer Federal Pension Plans: Oversee the daily operations of the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) pension programs.
- Retirement Counseling: Provide accurate and timely information to federal employees regarding eligibility, retirement dates, and benefit calculations.
- Compliance Management: Ensure all pension calculations and processing adhere to strict federal guidelines and internal audit standards.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records related to service credit, contributions, and annuity estimates.
- Benefit Analysis: Analyze employee service histories to determine optimal retirement strategies and pension payouts.
- Collaboration: Work closely with HR, payroll, and finance departments to resolve complex pension discrepancies and ensure seamless transitions to retirement.
- Policy Updates: Stay current on changes in federal retirement legislation and update internal procedures accordingly.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Human Resources, or a related field required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in federal benefits administration, pension processing, or retirement planning.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of FERS, CSRS, and OPM retirement regulations.
- Skills: Proficiency in federal HRIS systems (e.g., Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System - DEERS, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial staff.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy in data processing and reporting.
- Certification: SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus.
