Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public pools
- Investigate public health complaints and enforce regulatory compliance
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records
- Provide education to businesses and the public on health regulations
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams during outbreak investigations
- Testify in legal proceedings regarding regulatory violations
- Stay current with evolving public health standards and technologies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Biology, or related field
- California Public Health Inspector certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Minimum 2 years experience in environmental health or regulatory compliance
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations (FDA Food Code, CA Retail Food Code)
- Excellent communication skills for public interactions and report writing
- Valid California driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Certification in food safety preferred (ServSafe, etc.)
