In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the City's defined benefit pension plan. You will ensure strict compliance with state and federal regulations while providing exceptional service to current and retired employees. Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily administration and processing of all pension plan member requests, including enrollment, contributions, and benefit calculations.
- Ensure strict adherence to government accounting standards (GAAP) and relevant state and federal pension regulations.
- Prepare and audit complex financial reports and actuarial valuations for the Board of Trustees and City Council.
- Conduct member outreach and provide clear, professional guidance on retirement eligibility and benefit options.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources and Finance departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll and pension data.
- Investigate and resolve member inquiries regarding account balances, vested benefits, and payment schedules.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial science, or public sector benefits management.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP) and experience with ERPs (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or government-specific financial systems).
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and Department of Labor regulations regarding retirement plans.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage sensitive financial data with absolute confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial concepts to a non-technical audience.
