Role Overview:
As a Weekend Shift Mail Processing Clerk, you will be responsible for the accurate sorting, handling, and processing of mail and packages. You will operate high-speed mail processing equipment and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and federal regulations. Your work ensures that the citizens of Houston receive their essential communications on time.
Responsibilities
- Sort and Process Mail: Accurately sort incoming and outgoing mail and packages according to postal standards and address information.
- Operate Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate automated mail sorting machinery and related equipment.
- Manage Packages: Handle parcels and certified mail with extreme care to prevent damage and ensure proper delivery.
- Adhere to Safety: Follow all safety regulations, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean workspace.
- Customer Service: Assist with inquiries regarding mail status and resolve any discrepancies in the mail stream.
- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels of supplies and report shortages or damages immediately.
Qualifications
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Availability: Must be available to work a full-time schedule with mandatory weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 70 lbs repeatedly, stand for extended periods, and bend, stoop, and reach.
- Background Check: Must pass a criminal history background check and a drug screening.
- Communication: Strong ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
