Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain electronic health record systems ensuring HIPAA and VA compliance
- Oversee health data quality control and audit processes
- Implement and monitor information security protocols for sensitive veteran data
- Coordinate with clinical departments on documentation standards and coding practices
- Train staff on health information systems and privacy regulations
- Conduct regular compliance reviews and generate performance reports
- Lead system upgrades and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
- RHIA or RHIT certification required
- Minimum 3 years health information management experience
- Proficiency in EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, or VA-specific platforms)
- Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and VA record management policies
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- Ability to obtain and maintain VA background clearance
