Responsibilities
- Process and adjudicate veterans' disability compensation claims with accuracy and timeliness
- Conduct thorough interviews and gather supporting documentation for benefit applications
- Provide clear explanations of VA benefits and eligibility requirements to veterans and dependents
- Collaborate with medical professionals to obtain necessary evidence and medical opinions
- Maintain detailed case records in VA's electronic benefits system (VBMS)
- Respond to inquiries from veterans, congressional offices, and stakeholders within regulatory timeframes
- Stay current on VA policy updates and regulatory changes affecting veterans' benefits
Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship required
- GS-7 level: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 OR Superior Academic Achievement
- Knowledge of VA benefits programs, military service records, and disability evaluation processes
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to explain complex information clearly
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management software
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
- Experience working with veterans or military populations preferred
- Ability to pass background investigation and credit check
