Responsibilities
- Manage Court Records: Accurately receive, file, index, and maintain a wide variety of legal documents, including civil, criminal, and family court filings.
- Customer Service: Assist attorneys, litigants, and the general public with inquiries regarding case status, filing procedures, and court rules in a professional and courteous manner.
- Docket Management: Assist in the preparation and maintenance of court dockets and calendars, ensuring all hearings and appearances are documented correctly.
- Data Entry: Perform high-speed, high-accuracy data entry into the court’s case management system (CMS) and other digital databases.
- Communication: Answer telephones, screen visitors, and relay messages efficiently while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive legal information.
- Legal Procedures: Verify the completeness of legal documents and ensure compliance with statutory filing requirements and local court rules.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or Criminal Justice is preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience in a legal office, court administration, or government clerical role is highly desirable.
- Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and experience with court-specific case management software is a plus.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to proofread documents and maintain accurate records under tight deadlines.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Professionalism: Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and court procedures.
