Role Overview:
As an Entry Level Pension Specialist, you will serve as a vital link between the state system and its members. You will be responsible for guiding members through the pension process, ensuring accurate data entry, and providing exceptional service in a high-volume environment.
Responsibilities
- Member Inquiries: Assist members and prospective retirees with questions regarding pension eligibility, vesting periods, and benefit calculations via phone, email, and in-person.
- Application Processing: Review, verify, and process pension and retirement applications with a high degree of accuracy and adherence to state regulations.
- Data Management: Maintain and update member records in the state database, ensuring all information is current and confidential.
- Compliance Support: Ensure all processing activities comply with OPERS policies, state statutes, and federal guidelines.
- System Navigation: Utilize state-specific software and Microsoft Office Suite to generate reports and track case statuses.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, or Public Administration is a plus.
- Experience: No prior experience required; however, experience in customer service, data entry, or administrative support is highly preferred.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to detect errors in documentation.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to non-experts.
- Technical: Proficient in using computers and navigating multiple software systems simultaneously.
