Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public in a professional and calm manner.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to appropriate locations based on incoming information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all calls, logs, and unit status using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Monitor radio communications and alert field units to changing situations or new calls.
- Provide accurate location and status information to emergency responders to ensure efficient operations.
- Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel and support senior staff during peak call volumes.
- Stay updated on local geography, street names, and emergency protocols to assist callers effectively.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: No prior dispatch experience is necessary. We value attitude and aptitude over experience.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely over the phone.
- Typing: Ability to type at a minimum speed of 30-35 WPM (training provided).
- License: Valid driverβs license and a good driving record.
- Background: Ability to pass a thorough background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
